【摘要】:Materialslessthanorequalto0.59in.(15.0mm)inthicknessshallnotbetestedinaccordancewiththistestmethodinordertoavoidcompleteimmersionofthespecimens.Thistypeofexposureisbeyondthescopeofthistestmethod.Materialsshallbetestedatbothactualproductthicknessand1.00in.(25.4mm)thicknessprovidedthematerialscanbecuttoathicknessof1.00in.(25.4mm)withoutchangingtheoriginalcharacterofthematerials.Ifaproductcannotbecutwithoutchangingtheoriginalcharacterofthematerial,thetestreportshallcontainanappropriatenotetothiseffect.Resultsshallbereportedonthebasisofequalnominalwettedspecimensurfacearea(inunitsofkilogramspersquaremetre)formaterialstestedatactualproductthicknessandonthebasisofequalspecimenvolume(inunitsofpercentbyvolume)formaterialstestedat1.00in.(25.4mm)thickness.Ifaproductcannotbecuttoathicknessof1.00in.(25.4mm)oriftheactualproductthicknessislessthan1.00in.(25.4mm)butgreaterthan0.59in.(15.0mm),theproductshallonlybetestedatactualproductthicknessandresultsonlyreportedonthebasisofequalnominalwettedspecimensurfacearea.Byreportingresultsonthebasisofequalnominalwettedspecimensurfacearea,specimensofdifferentthicknessescanbecomparedequitably.Forsomespecimens,thewaterintakeandretentionprimarilymaydependonthenominalwettedsurfaceareaavailableforwaterintake.Byreportingresultsonthebasisofequalspecimenvolume,specimenscanbecomparedequitablyusingunitsthatcommonlyareselectedtorepresentresultsofwaterintaketesting(percentbyvolume).Forsomematerials,waterintakeandretentionprimarilymaydependonthevolumeofthespecimenavailableforwaterintake.Inmostcaseswaterretentionisasecondaryperformancecharacteristicthathasaninfluenceonaprimaryperformancecharacteristic,suchasthermalperformance,surfaceaccumulationofmoisture(thatmaycontributetofungalgrowth),localizedcollectionofelectrolytes(thatmaycontributetocorrosion),etc.Dependingontheprimaryperformancecharacteristicthatisofinterest,thepreferredunitsforuseincomparingthewaterretentionofdifferentmaterialsmaybeeitherkilogramspersquaremetreorpercentbyvolume.Immersiontimesinadditiontothoserequiredbythistestmethodmaybeselectedprovidedthatallpartiesinvolvedareinagreement.Thewaterretentioncharacteristicsofmaterialsmaybeaffectedbyconditionssuchaselevatedtemperaturesorchemicalexposures.1.1Thistestmethoddeterminestheamountofwaterretained(includingsurfacewater)byrigidblockandboardthermalinsulationsusedinbuildingconstructionapplicationsafterthesematerialshavebeenpartiallyimmersedinliquidwaterforprescribedtimeintervalsunderisothermalconditions.Thistestmethodisintendedtobeusedforthecharacterizationofmaterialsinthelaboratory.Itisnotintendedtosimulateanyparticularenvironmentalconditionthatmaybeencounteredinbuildingconstructionapplications.1.2Thistestmethoddoesnotaddressallthepossiblemechanismsofwaterintakeandretentionandrelatedphenomenaforrigidthermalinsulations.Itrelatesonlytothoseconditionsoutlinedin1.1.Determinationofmoistureaccumulationinthermalinsulationsduetocompleteimmersion,watervaportransmission,internalcondensation,freeze-thawcycling,oracombinationoftheseeffectsrequiresdifferenttestprocedures.1.3Eachpartialimmersionintervalisfollowedbyabrieffree-drainageperiod.Thistestmethoddoesnotaddressorattempttoquantifythedrainagecharacteristicsofmaterials.Therefore,resultsformaterialswithdifferentinternalstructureandporosity,suchascellularmaterialsand......
